“The 40th Anniversary Celebration Continues” was Dennis Basso’s overarching theme for Fall-Winter 2023. “Self-confidence, glamour, luxury a very American brand of fresh elegance with a dash of European savoir fair,” he said of his brand’s essence, all inspired by New York City nights this season. He delivered the vibe with gusto. From the opening film of iconic DB moments – Nikki Haskell! Liza Minnelli! Mary J. Blige! Ivana Trump! More, more, more!!! – to the front row graced by friends and socialites like Dori Cooperman, Fe Fendi, Nicole Miller, Alexandra Lind Rose, and Jill Kargman, it had the makings of a great party replete with a runway full of clothes fit for such occasion. Take, for example, the emerald strapless ballgown or sapphire draped off-shoulder velvet gown, or the silver and blue strapless jacquard dress.
For his finale, Basso had a birthday surprise up his sleeve. Supermodel Beverly Johnson closed his show in dramatic fashion, making her way down the runway like the true queen she is.
