The Markarian brand creates romantic, whimsical pieces that are made to stand out and for the SS21 collection, the brand stood firm in the root of what Markarian creates. The current status of the world has made us all rethink how things are done and the brand wanted to keep the element of working from home and small gatherings front and center.
They took that way of thinking and need for comfort and turned it into something that rang true to Markarian’s heritage and what they do best. But just because the current events of the health crisis is with us, they still wanted to give the Markarian girl a sense of fantasy and something to look forward to, which took shape as an 80’s garden party. The 80’s parties were big hair, pastels, floral prints, and big shoulders. Markarian took that idea and updated it a bit to fit our lives. There were plenty of delicately printed and pleated cotton dresses that you can wear at home or to dinner, or a cotton mirror embellished strapless dress for a night out, or a one-shoulder, exaggerated puffed sleeve dress with a train perfect for a rehearsal dinner.
These are pieces that can take you from the tried and true idea of day to night, your home office to your dining room, intimate backyard ceremonies to hopefully larger wedding celebrations in the future. The goal was to show pieces that not only fit our current lifestyles, but that also gives a sense of normalcy and excitement for the future, which Markarian nailed.
