Weston Brigette Jones is a freelance artist based in Birmingham , AL and her talents extend far and wide as she creates impressive pieces using graphic design, illustration, water colours, mixed medium and more. We had an exclusive interview with Brigette Jones about her life as an artist, known as Brigette’s Art, for VPRCOM Magazine:
http://kirstincronn-mills.com/?cat=67 When did you first realize you wanted to become an artist?
I first really realized that I wanted to be a professional artist around the age of 12 or so. I had been drawing since I was about 4 years old with my dad as my primary art teacher once he saw that I had the gift and the passion to do it. It runs in the family on his side and even my grandfather was a great charcoal artist when he was alive.
If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?
If I could go back and tell myself one important thing before I began this journey it would have been to continue believing in yourself even if you have to do it alone!
How do you want your clients to feel when they will buy your drawings or art pieces?
I want my clients to feel like they have something that is unique and one of a kind and that when they look at my pieces, they see the gifts of curiosity, imagination and creativity in tangible form that inspires them to dream again as well!
Can you tell us how your creations makes a difference to help more the environment?
I believe that my pieces/ creations, as well as those similar to mine, help make a difference in the environment by being digital in nature. This helps artists and creators alike find a safer way to express themselves and share their gifts with the world without the mast waste that traditional design (print design) comes with as far as cutting down on mass tree consumption and waste.
What do you think is the biggest challenge for a creative during this pandemic situation?
You know, the thing that I believe is the biggest challenge for us creatives is probably finding the inspiration and motivation to even create and produce art. Just the times that we are living in can cause so much distress and depression especially with those in the art community in their mental health ( I am in BOTH communities just fyi ) that you don’t want to “get back up again” and keep going in life yet alone in your gift and your craft that uses SOOO much of your mental and emotional strength and energy.
There is one important person, in your life, who pushes and motivates you to believe in yourself?
Honestly, that one Person in my life would be my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, He alone is the only reason I have to hope for a better tomorrow on the way to working on a better today. My faith is essential to my life because I know without a shadow of a doubt that if I didn’t have a relationship with my God and my Creator then I would’ve given up a long time ago. And now that He’s blessing me to even be here to talk about how I overcame life’s battles is just a testament to His goodness and not mine. Jesus makes the pain to preserve worth it in the end!
Describe us you as a creative in your personal life and how your feelings influence the creativity process?
Well, how I would describe myself as a creative would be that I am a usually light- hearted and child-like hearted creative that loves to learn and explore especially within my special interests. I feel like if I am not growing as a person in general then I am not doing my job and well as helping others to the “finish line” in life and become what they are dreaming of.
Would you like to involve other creatives in your future projects?
Ummm, actually I would not mind it later on in my career. I enjoy learning from just about any source and I am an open-minded individual. I would especially enjoy working with the older generations in the creative community and gleaning from them, they have so much wisdom that they can pass on to us younger generations that would truly benefit not just us as individuals but the entire community’s growth, resilience and strength. I’ve just hit the tip of the iceberg in my opinion and I still have SOOO much to learn that the opportunity would indeed be a blessing to me!
What is the slogan of Brigette’s Art?
The main message that I had in mind when creating my brand and company logo was, “ The Science of Imagery”. The thought behind it was combining my two strongest interests in school, which was science and art. I believe that there is an art to everything and that it is yet still very formulaic like a science that you would do in a chemistry lab somewhere and I’ve always believed that there was a strong connection and correlation to Science and Art.
What are the next steps for you in order to grow up more?
I think my steps in order to achieve growth are to become more educated in the “art” of business many new business people especially in the arts believe there is not much more to running an art company that the creative side and it is indeed a BUSINESS and with that comes an inevitable learning curve in business, marketing, advertising, writing contracts and proposals, legal protections for your company, getting a business license, finance, time and project management, and the list is just about endless BUT ALL necessary for the overall health and success of your dream to become a long standing reality for many to enjoy.
