INTERVIEW: JOSE ORTIZ ABOUT MOZZE DESIGNS + TIMELESS FASHION

Mozze offers timeless and fashion-forward pieces, inspired by everyday beauty. Jose Ortiz’s diverse line is represented by many collections, which the designer has developed from ideas to realities throughout his career as a Fashion Designer. His goal is to create exclusive designs that each wearer can adapt to freely express their own unique and wonderful style.

The quintessential skill in any industry is creativity. Jose is a great fashion designer, able to make something out of anything. He is able to transform the two dimensional idea into a three-dimensional art piece. The process from conceptualization to completion takes a lot of creativity and determination. When you look at his fabrics, you know that Mozee is able to deliver the best and keep striving for excellence.

Mozze is a creatively dark yet sophisticated women’s clothing brand; it is an expression of my lifetime traumas. Mozze is couture meeting chic; all collections feature various textures, asymmetrical forms and avant-garde designs.

At the moment I am mostly known in the USA market. I plan to expand tinternationally in the next few months by pushing myself to be more active in other countries through social media as well as in person.

How MOZZE Designs was born and where can we find it exactly?  

Mozze was created from my lifetime experiences;  I wanted a way to show and tell my story and I was able to do it through fashion designing.

What do you think was/is the biggest challenge for you during the pandemic situation?

The biggest challenge through the pandemic that I faced was customers with custom made projects. This was an issue because everything had to be through messages and emails. Getting measurements accurate and had very few times for fittings. 

How do you want to achieve the long-lasting concept for your label? 

I want to achieve this by always being one of a kind designs and innovative.

How do you determine what is durable design?

I determine what is a durable design by the craftsmanship of the designs. All of my designs are carefully done and measured. From paper patterns to draping on bustforms. 

Where could you serve as a role model for others?

I would like to serve as a role model for any one who is afraid to pursue their goals. I want them to look at me and realize that if a kid that was born into a working class family in Arizona can do it, so can I. I want future generations of designers to look at me as a source of comfort when they’re feeling at their lowest, because my path has not been easy but it sure has been rewarding 

Can you tell us a little bit about your references for the last collection?

My reference to my last collection was my mother. She passed away last year and that really crushed me. The collection was inspired by the 5 stages of grief. Every stage was designed into 2 or 3 garments and chosen a specific color that represented it. I used colors from dark reds, blacks, nudes and white. I emphasized flowers as a big part of the collection because my mother used to love them. I used fabrics like tulle, lace, satin and chiffon. 

What does your label need right now as a fine art brand in order to achieve the next goals?

My brand needs to be able to reach more customers through showcasing new collections in different fashion weeks and fashion shows. 

Which market are you interested in right now for your brand?

The market I am interested in is men and women who aren’t afraid to show who they are. People that love themselves in any type,size and color.
